Let’s take a moment to make you understand “How does Ayurveda work on our body?”

APPROACH OF AYURVEDA

Ayurveda is known for its natural remedy options for most of the common diseases that affect every Man/Woman in daily life.

It follows the approach to diagnose individual body types which are called “DOSHAS”, all of which have specific correlating elements. Every individual has his/her own unique inherent physical constitution given to them by their birth.

Every individual falls into 3 different “DOSHAS”. Please find the details below;

BODY TYPES – DESCRIBED BY AYURVEDA:

As per ATHARVAVEDA, every individual body type falls into 1 “DOSHA” or a combination of 2 “DOSHAS”. Every individual has different needs in terms of Diet, Exercise and Living environment as per their “DOSHAS”.

“VATA”

These types of individuals are energetic, slim and have a fast metabolism. They have visible veins as well.

VATA - DOSAS - Ayurveda

 

“PITA”

These types of Individuals have good muscle development; they are passionate and tend to go hot fast.

PITA-DOSAS - Ayurveda

“KAPHA”

These types of Individuals have thick smooth skins, they gain weight easily, they are considered much grounded in nature and they have a slow metabolism.

KAPHA-DOSAS - Ayurveda

Approach to understand Ayurveda:

Those who want to take benefits of Ayurveda by following natural remedies, need to follow the steps given below:

  • Understand your body type as per “DOSHAS” mentioned above.
  • Categorize yourself in 1 “DOSHA” or a combination of 2 “DOSHAS”.
  • Start taking preventing approach to your health by following a balanced diet, taking herbs and giving attention to the Living environment.

Herbs: – “Super Tonics”

As per the “RIGVEDA/ATHARVAVEDA” herbs are referred to as “Rasayanas”. They serve the purpose of Ayurveda which is “A Preventive approach to healthy life”. Most importantly they promote good health and longevity.

Here are a few herbs defined by Ayurveda for different body types:

ASHWAGANDHA ROOT:

Ashwagandha is derived from the Sanskrit. It is a combination of the word ashva, meaning horse, and gandha, meaning smell. The root has a strong aroma that is described as “horse-like.”

Comonaly “Energizer” for the entire body. It helps reduce Depression, Anxiety, Nervous Exhaustion and Physical Fatigue.

It is a powerful immune system restorative. It can be used by both Men & Women alike.

Body Types: It can be helpful for all body types but is strongly recommended for PITA and KAPHA body types.

Precautions & Warnings: Ashwagandha or any of its products should not be used by pregnant women. It also not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.

GOTU KOLA ROOT:

In North India, Gotu Kola is named as “Brahmi”. It is best described as a “Brain Tonic” when used with “Ginkgo” for its profound effect.

It is recommended to use Gotu Kola for Nervous system control. This is an excellent remedy for Anxiety related issues, stress & nervous system disorders.

Body Types – It can be helpful for all body types, VATA, PITTA, and KAPHA.

Precautions & Warnings – It is not recommended to take Gotu Kola when one has Liver disease and during surgery.

AMALAKI (AMLA):

Amala is known as a tree fruit in most places in India. It is a powerful antioxidant to increase immune response, naturally. It also helps detoxify the body.

It is a great source of Vitamin C and helps in production and regeneration of red blood cells. It also helps in soothing pain caused by inflammation of joints.

Body Types: It is helpful for all body types as “Fire for digestion” but strongly recommended for “PITTA” types because it removes excess heat from the body and causes cooling in nature.

Precautions & Warnings – Pregnant or nursing mothers should consult the doctor before taking any product that contains AMALA. As per Ayurveda, it does not have any known side effects.

SHATAVARI ROOT:

It is also known as “wild asparagus”. It is very good for regulating Hormones.

It is known as a very important source to enhance fertility for Men and Women. It is strongly recommended for Women of all ages to use this herb because it helps in female menstruation and reproductive health. It also nourishes the blood.

It is used for the treatment of Impotency problems in men. It is very effective for male reproductive glands like Prostrate.

Body Types: It is recommended for “VATA” and “PITTA” types.

Precautions & Warnings: Women with high estrogen should avoid the use of this. It can cause symptoms like breast tenderness.

TULSI (HOLY BASIL):

Tulsi is best known as a sacred herb in India. It has been one of the best known Ayurvedic medicines for decades.  It has 3 different types as described below;

  • Krishna Tulsi (Dark in color – purplish or dark purple)
  • Rama Tulsi (Light in color – Green)
  • Vana Tulsi (Dark in color and with wild leafs)

Rama Tulsi is the primary form of Tulsi. It is widely used as an Ayurvedic herb. It removes kaphs or Mucus from the lungs. It has a natural energetic effect on the body, if it is taken as a tea.  It is very helpful for maintaining a good healthy heart.

It is also best known for reducing the risk of diseases such as Cancer, Heart Disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and for slowing down the Aging process.

Body Types: It can be helpful for all body types but strongly recommended for “PITTA” types.

Precautions & Warnings: It should not be used with anti-clotting medications without properly consulting one’s doctor.
